Homeowner’s and renter’s insurance rates are directly related to our fire district rating. This rating is officially called the ISO/FSRS rating. Lyle is currently an 8 in town and within 5 road miles of our station. In town, many of residents individually qualify as a 7 if they are within a certain distance of a fire hydrant. This rating is based on many things including: training, equipment maintenance, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) compliance, and what and how many types of fire apparatus (vehicles) the fire department has.

One of our goals is to keep your insurance as low as possible by keeping our ISO rating as high as possible. We work to accomplish this in several ways. First, we try and purchase all of our apparatus and fund improvements through federal, state and local grants. Second, we take some of our apparatus to state mobilization fires. Being part of the state mobilization plan helps us in three ways: 1) when the day comes that we need help, we can draw on resources throughout the state; 2) our fire fighters get more “live fire” experience than they would if they just stayed in district; and 3) the department gets paid the going rate for our “leased” apparatus and that money goes right back into our general fund.

If you have any questions or concerns, or have interest in volunteering with a great group of highly motivated people, please feel free to call our station directly at 365.2500.
